The Ugly Truth about "Safe Sex"
Many teens are being given a message that using condoms or other forms of birth control is having "safe sex". If that is true, why do you think that sexually active people who use condoms are still experiencing pregnancy and contracting STD's and HIV/AIDS?
That's a good question! Here are some reasons why sex is still risky, even when you choose to use condoms.
- Even if condoms are used correctly, they can slip or break. This could lead to a pregnancy or STD being transmitted.
- Some STD's, like Herpes and Genital Warts, can be passed from person to person through skin contact on areas not covered by a condom.
- There is still a 29% risk of contracting HIV or AIDS when using a condom.
- Studies show that a large percentage of people having sex are not using condoms effectively.
Use "condom" sense! If you want real protection, save yourself.
