Time to Talk to Your Parents

Do you ever feel like talking to your parents about sex, but are afraid to? Sometimes it can be hard to talk about such a private and confusing part of your life.

Parents kind of feel the same way, though. Often parents want to talk to their kids about not having sex, but are scared too. They DO care, and they DO want to talk to you!

As a teen, you can learn some ways to begin talking with your parents about abstinence and why it is so important.

Someone has to take the first step, right? Why not you?

Here are some suggestions for talking to your parents about abstinence.

  • Use a TV show, book, article, or song as a starting point.
  • Ask about their teenage years. Your parents were young too!
  • Be honest about your feelings, questions, or worries. Your parents can't help you if they don't know what is truly in your heart.
  • Parents can be good people to discuss marriage, staying abstinent when you may not feel like it, and how to say "no" to a boyfriend or girlfriend.

Parents have so much to offer--you won't know until you try!
